it's beginning to sound not a lot like christmas

so, it seems it's that time of year again, too many happy holiday greetings, too much egg nog and brandy, one too many secret santas, the fist fights in the malls for x-boxes, the online shopping scams, the endless rehashes of classic christmas songs done by lame no-talent-disney-girl-boyband-rap-country hacks pushing everything you really don't need from stores you never go to the rest of the year, and of course, all the music bloggers are rushing out their x-mas mixes. i thought i would beat the good reverend frost to this, but alas i shoulda known better. at least i can try and mix it up with the big boys myself. i choose to take the low road on this one. a bit of an edgier, grittier, obscure rockin' kinda christmas mix. the kind of stuff you wouldn't want to sing while roasting your nuts over the fire (then again maybe you would, i can't tell from here).
well, i better leave it at that before i start getting all sentimental and shit ...

here's the 1st wreckroom x-mas mix in mp3 (via yousendit):
the sonics - don't believe in christmas

keith richards - run rudolph run
sparks - thank god it's not christmas
the darkness - christmas time (don't let the bells stop)
the ramones - punk rock christmas
cheap trick - come on christmas (edit)
the kinks - father christmas
xtc - thanks for christmas
the beatles - christmas time (is here again)
jet - back door santa
the eels - christmas is going to the dogs
jimi hendrix - little drummer boy/silent night/auld lang syne (ext ver)

... or the whole thing all mixed already for your christmas cheer:
the wreckroom x-mas mix no.1 (39mbs file)

Thank God I don't work in retail.
I can stand a little Christmas music but having to listen to it from Thanksgiving to Dec. 25 would probably turn me into a homocidal maniac.

Secret Santa Jen is too lazy to do anything other than give gift cards this year.

Laurie -- bears an odd resemblance to my ex-hubby too. :P

j-man, i did work in a mall in my other, younger life. it drove me to drink! i can't stand to go mall shopping this time of year without a couple of shots being downed beforehand, at least that is my excuse ...

ms L and jen, you two are too fuckin' funny! i didn't realize ya'll were both married to my uncle bob, that man really gets around when he ain't blitzed, naked and playin' santa!

reverend frost, thanks buddy! i really enjoy your seasonal mixes mucho much ...

Tremendous festive mix old boy - not a turkey in sight! Like my wife, Christmas comes but once a year; but Sleepy, you have emptied your veritable sackful down the blogworld's virtual chimney.

Perhaps I'm a grizzly, dribbling, old curmudgeon these days, but there's little wrong with an edgier, grittier Christmas.

As I place my wrinkly, liver-spotted hand onto the 'play' button, the promise of more sparkling mixes like this is all I want for Christmas. (Well, that and an unfeasibly pert Swedish nymphette called Ingrid).

(Jolly good XTC track by the way).

That is a really nasty pic...I like it! That is the afterhours pic of the guy everyone is having their baby's picture taken with at the mall. :-0

I see Cafe Degas reopened recently, great to hear!

I'm totally jealous of your new system M.A., it's a beauty. I'm dying for a new one.
